“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” – Elliott Erwitt

Where have I been?

Well, a couple of weeks ago I joined Clickin’ Moms!!  And let me tell you, that forum is packed full of photography goodness.  I CAN’T STOP READING.  Seriously.  I’m starting to think I have a problem.

I did take some time away from the forum yesterday for a mini photo shoot with me beautiful sister!!  I’ve only had a chance to edit a handful of the photos we took and so far I’m beyond thrilled with them!!

This month I Clicked It Up a Notch!!

All Boy {I Heart Faces}

Boys will be boys…unless they decide they want to be a dragon!

That was it, one day Owen had to be a dragon, as if it was completely normal to spend the entire day dressed up, and I guess for a 3 year old little boy it is completely normal.  My wish for him is that the funny, sweet, completely innocent, and sometimes rotten little boy that he is today stays with him.  I can only hope that he never loses his since of adventure.

A peek inside our morning...

My morning usually starts at 6:30AM sharp and is crazy from the second the clock goes off until we’re out the door.   But some mornings aren't typical mornings – like Saturday!  On weekends we have time to slow down to enjoy the quite moments :)

I especially love Saturday mornings because we lounge around in our PJs and cuddle on the couch watching cartoons.  I remember doing this when I was little and now I get to do the same with Owen!

On this day Owen had enough after about an hour and wanted to take a bath.  It was time to start the day!

You would have seen a photo similar to this in my last post.  I love the backlighting!!

Owen had to show me his best Spiderman :)  Beware everyone, he's secretly a superhero in training and like's to do this to anyone he meets!

Lifestyle Photography.

As a new, very new, photographer (and I use that term loosely when describing myself) I haven’t yet figured out my style.  I’m in love with portraiture; I see amazing beautiful photos every day, ones I can only dream of being able to take someday.

I naturally gravitate toward portraiture, lifestyle portraiture in particular.  I’m still fumbling along this amazing journey that I’m sincerely grateful I discovered.  I don’t expect to ‘find my style’ quite this easily and I know it’ll take years of practice and learning.

That said there’s something about capturing the everyday moments that allow you to take a peek into the personalities of the people in a photo that draws me in.  Capturing life as it goes in an artistic manner is what makes my heart sing.

These are the photos that I hang, with pride, in my home and the moments that I want to remember.

summer photography challenge

Courtney from Click it up a Notch is offering as a free download on her Facebook page, a 30 day challenge on photographing your kids.  There are some really amazing ideas in there, and I think that I’m going to give it a try.

Ok, I’ll face it.  There’s no way I’m able to get these all completed in just 30 days so I’ll commit to getting as many of these accomplished as I can this summer – my summer photography challenge!!
I couldn’t wait to get started on these.  Challenge photograph #1 is:

Day 23: Brushing teeth.

Because I know me, and Owen, I’m also not going to commit to completing them in a row.  That just adds another level of complexity that will ensure I give up before I even really get started.
Towards the end of the summer I’ll see how many I get done.

Wish me luck!!
